The crank pin and piston pin are connectors to connect crankshaft, conrod, and piston. A good crank pin and piston pin should be strong enough to bear the shear forces at the crankshaft-conrod and piston-conrod edges. Besides, the surface hardness should be more than HRC60 to ensure excellent durability.
